About
I’m driven by a great curiosity and a love of craft. My work references my eclectic interests—often with dashes of irony, humour and nostalgic nods to my 1970s–80s childhood. I aim to make work that feels immediate yet can reward closer looking with unfolding narratives.
Everything begins with drawing to test ideas and find a direction. The end point may be the drawing but usually a plan will emerge regarding which of my mediums will work best for a particular image and I’ll move into the visual language of wood engraving, linocut, etching or painting.
In our increasingly digital world, the history and physicality of these traditional creative processes grounds my practice and I delight in the forever journey towards mastering them. As I work, the advice of my many teachers along the way, the learning from the many works that I have studied, and my own happy accidental breakthroughs swirl around my head and guide my hands.
I work from my studio in Thames Ditton.
